Chapter 7 of Nehemiah: The wall is completed. Many of us finish a big project and run into a “Now What?” moment. Sometimes our identity can be tied up in the project and we suddenly feel a loss of purpose when this is removed from our life. Instead, we need to remember to find our value in who Christ says we are. Nehemiah now takes on a genealogy project. Through his count of different professions and possessions, we see that Nehemiah is describing a very poor group of people. Even more important though is the cost of the temple. With the enormous cost, it appears that every family must have given something to help complete the project. This is an incredible model of generosity.
